I live in a great neighborhood with an amazing street of people who look out for each other. I knew we had at least one sober living house on our street. But last year, when a parolee tried to break into a elderly neighbors backyard, I discovered we had two on my street and two on the next street over. Four sober living houses in one block.
My neighbors had contact the city before complaining about these coming in and nothing was done to help or listen to them. That's when I started to research effective sober living ordinances that were put into place in other cities around Southern California.
The solutions, or at least safeguards are there, but no one wanted to make it happen. I listened to the fear from my neighbors and thought about my neighborhood.
That lack of action is present in our roads, which are in shambles across the city. Tennis courts have been shut down. People are afraid to go to certain parks because of the teenagers who ride e-bikes and harass others.
The sober living ordinance would be the catalyst that got me going, but these were all part of a similar issue: not paying attention to the issues we could handle. Ignoring the important aspects of our life that matter the most.
That's why I'm running for city council. To focus on the achievable tasks we need to accomplish to make life better for our residents. To listen when citizens complain. To take action on the quality of life issues that matter to my neighbors, and our city.
A 650-foot buffer between sober living homes, similar to one implemented in Costa Mesa, to protect neighborhood spaces and provide better environments for those seeking treatment.
Banning the riding and operation of e-bikes at our parks. They go too fast, are too heavy and have been used to vandalize the grass fields used for youth sports.
A four-year focus on rebuilding the roads in this city and ensuring all residents have safe, reliable streets to drive.
